The Flag at Fort Seward after the dedication, June 14, 2005.
Flag day commemorates the adoption of the flag by the Second Continental Congress in 1777.
Oddly enough it is not a Federal holiday. Even though it has been celebrated since the Woodrow Wilson administration.
Many communities, including Jamestown, will have flag retirement ceremonies where old and damaged flags are respectfully burned by the local Boy Scouts.
Take a moment to salute Old Glory today and be thankful. Thankful for this great country and the fact that this is a holiday that doesn’t require the sending of a card.
